An elderly man, aged 85, has passed away more than four months after an incident in which he confronted intruders who had broken into his home. Gordon Nicholass faced the burglars around 3 a.m. on April 29 at his residence in Helmshore, a village located in Lancashire.
According to Lancashire Police, during the confrontation, Mr. Nicholass was assaulted, sustaining head injuries and facial cuts. He initially received treatment at the hospital before being discharged, but his condition later worsened, leading to his readmission. He ultimately died on August 12.
Authorities have conducted a post-mortem examination, but investigations are ongoing to determine whether the assault directly contributed to his death. Speaking about Mr. Nicholass, his family described him as “a wonderful husband, dad and granddad.”
In their tribute, they highlighted his passion for motorcycles and his reputation for engineering expertise. They fondly recalled him as “mister fix it” and a “jack of all trades,” noting his readiness to help anyone—family, friends, or even strangers. His family expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing that they “will all miss him dearly.”
