Two individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the death of a man who fell from a balcony. The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday at a set of flats located on Liverpool Street in Salford, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of the man’s fall, and despite efforts, the individual passed away later that night. Initially, one man was detained on suspicion of attempted murder, but his status was later changed to suspicion of murder. A second man was also arrested under the same suspicion.
Because both suspects had prior interactions with the police, the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for further examination. GMP confirmed that the IOPC is involved due to the earlier police contact with those implicated in the incident.
An IOPC spokesperson stated, “After being notified by the Greater Manchester Police of the previous police contact with the parties involved in this incident, we sent investigators to the police post-incident procedures in Manchester in assessment mode to gather further information. We continue to remain in assessment mode and will assess a GMP referral in due course.
