Authorities have confirmed that several individuals lost their lives in a serious incident involving a police vehicle and a car. The crash took place on the A66 in South Bank, near Middlesbrough in Teesside, around 03:39 BST, according to Cleveland Police.
Emergency responders from the North East Ambulance Service reported that the accident actually involved three vehicles. They also stated that multiple casualties were pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the police expressed their condolences, saying, “Sadly, the collision has resulted in multiple fatalities. We are working to identify the victims and contact their families.” Efforts are ongoing to determine the identities of those involved and to notify their relatives.
Due to the severity of the crash, the A66 remains closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane. Authorities have indicated that this closure will be in place for an extended period while investigations and recovery operations continue
