Search launched for man feared to have fallen overboard from cruise

Passengers on the MS Ambition experienced a delay before being allowed to leave the vessel, ultimately disembarking around 11:30. The ship had recently completed a two-week voyage that included stops in Shetland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands before docking in Dundee.

In response to an ongoing situation, coastguard aircraft dispatched from locations as distant as Prestwick and Carlisle joined efforts alongside a commercial search and rescue helicopter. Additional support came from lifeboat teams operating out of Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, as well as Coastguard rescue units from Dundee, Arbroath, and St Andrews, with backup provided by nearby vessels in the area.

A spokesperson representing the Ambassador confirmed that they were adhering strictly to established search and rescue protocols while cooperating with both police and coastguard authorities. The spokesperson emphasized, “Ambassador remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of all our guests and crew.”

Forth Ports, the organization responsible for managing the Port of Dundee, acknowledged the incident, stating, “We have been informed of an issue on board the Ambition cruise ship while at sea. The vessel is currently berthed in Dundee and we are liaising with the ship and its owner.” Notably, the MS Ambition has previously been utilized by the Scottish government as temporary accommodation for Ukrainian refugees along the River Clyde
