In north Wales, a light aircraft crash has resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The wreckage was discovered in a remote area near Trawsfynydd, close to Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd. According to North Wales Police, the two occupants were found deceased at the scene.
Reports to the authorities came shortly after midday BST when the aircraft, which had been flying from an airfield in England, failed to arrive at its scheduled destination, Caernarfon Airport. Following these reports, extensive air and ground search operations were conducted by multiple agencies until the plane was located.
The Air Accidents Investigations Branch (AAIB) has since sent a team of investigators to the site to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Chief Superintendent Owain Llewellyn described the search as “challenging.”
Expressing sympathy for those affected, Chief Superintendent Llewellyn said, “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic incident.” He also emphasised the police force’s commitment to working alongside the AAIB to make sure the cause of the crash is thoroughly understood. He concluded by expressing gratitude for the “professionalism and dedication” shown by all agencies involved
