Shane Richie, known for his role as Alfie Moon on the BBC soap opera EastEnders, is set to face court over a drink-driving charge, according to police reports. The incident occurred in the Church Langley Way area of Harlow, Essex, where officers were called shortly before 11:20 pm on Wednesday. Following the police intervention, Richie, whose real name is Shane Roche, was arrested.
The 62-year-old actor, who resides in Tadworth, Surrey, has had the charge formally authorized by the authorities. He is scheduled to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on September 9. Richie has been a familiar face in EastEnders since his debut in 2002, portraying the character Alfie Moon.
Police confirmed the details of the arrest, stating that officers responded to reports of a suspected drink-driver in the Harlow area. Upon arriving, they took Shane Roche into custody. A spokesperson for Essex Police stated: “Officers were called to reports of a suspected drink-driver in the area of Church Langley Way, Harlow, shortly before 23:20 on Wednesday, 29 July. On arrival, officers arrested a man. A charge of drink-driving has subsequently been authorised against Shane Roche, 62, of Tadworth, Surrey.”
Attempts to obtain a statement from Richie’s representative have so far been unsuccessful. The case remains pending as the actor awaits his court appearance later this year
