On the first anniversary of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing, his widow Sharon Osbourne encouraged fans to honor his memory by playing his music “really loud.” Speaking to BBC Radio WM, Sharon reflected on Ozzy’s unique personality, recalling how he was both humorous and genuinely charismatic. In her emotional interview, she shared, “As Ozzy would say, ‘when you want to remember me, just yank up the music really loud, as loud as you can get it, and just head bang’.”
Sharon was in Birmingham, Ozzy’s birthplace, as the city prepared to celebrate its inaugural Ozzy Day, a tribute event dedicated to the Black Sabbath frontman. She described her late husband as authentic and straightforward, recalling that “you knew where you were with him.” Despite occasional intense arguments, their disagreements often ended in laughter, thanks to Ozzy’s ability to say something unexpectedly funny.
Ozzy Osbourne, affectionately known as The Prince of Darkness, died on 22 July 2025 at the age of 76, shortly after performing at Black Sabbath’s farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, held at Villa Park. Ozzy had battled several health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, diagnosed in 2019. The farewell event raised funds for three charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Acorns Children’s Hospice, and Birmingham Children’s Hospital charity. Sharon praised these organizations, particularly Acorns, whose work she found “amazing.” She shared that the hospital had treated Ozzy for whooping cough as a child and highlighted his generous spirit, saying, “He was just a real bloke, a really good bloke with a big heart and he wanted to give back.”
Looking forward, Sharon hopes Ozzy Day will become a lasting celebration of Ozzy’s legacy, emphasizing the importance of Birmingham as the heart of metal music and Ozzy’s true home. She stated, “He loved this city, he loved its people. He was proud of being a Brummie and that’s it.” Reflecting on the series of concerts from the previous year featuring bands like Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, she called the event “beautiful” and said it was a deeply meaningful experience for her family, with messages of love and respect pouring in from around the world
