Police are seeking witnesses following the death of a young boy who was hit by a lorry and later died in hospital. The tragic accident took place around 16:40 BST on Friday along Epping Road in Chipping Ongar, Essex.
The driver of the lorry, a 48-year-old man from Derbyshire, was detained at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation, with a return date set for September.
According to a police spokesperson, the child suffered severe injuries and was transported to hospital, where he ultimately passed away. The authorities have deployed specialist officers to provide assistance and support to the boy’s family, whose exact age has not been disclosed.
Following the collision, Epping Road, which serves as a connection between Chipping Ongar and North Weald Bassett, was closed temporarily. Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who was driving nearby and may have dash cam footage to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry
