Teenager charged over Golders Green suspected arson attack

An 18-year-old male has been formally charged with helping an offender following a suspected arson assault on four ambulances owned by a Jewish charity in Golders Green, located in north London. The individual, Subhan Ahmed from Walthamstow in north-east London, is accused of arranging to scrap his vehicle in a bid to assist others in evading arrest or prosecution related to this incident.

Ahmed has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 16 June. He represents the fifth person charged in connection with the deliberate fire set on 23 March that targeted the Hatzola ambulances. The blaze caused a significant explosion and resulted in approximately £1 million worth of destruction, damaging the vehicles and medical supplies, as well as impacting nearby residential flats and a synagogue.

Earlier court appearances involved four other individuals linked to the attack: Hamza Iqbal, aged 20; Rehan Khan, 19; Judex Atshatshi, 18; and a 17-year-old male whose identity remains protected by legal restrictions. All have been granted bail until August. Charges against Iqbal, Khan, and the unnamed teenager include arson with recklessness regarding potential harm to life. Atshatshi faces charges of arson with intent to cause damage and similar recklessness about endangering life.

Authorities have indicated that the arson was a deliberate assault targeting the Jewish community. This event forms part of a series of recent attacks on Jewish sites in London, which are currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism unit. These investigations also cover a double stabbing incident in Golders Green, as well as other assaults on synagogues and Jewish businesses in the capital
