Manchester schoolgirl arrested after three hurt in knife attack

In Manchester, authorities have detained a girl following an incident at the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley, where three individuals sustained knife wounds. According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the injuries do not appear to be severe. Emergency responders continue to be present at the scene as officers provide support to the school community. The academy has announced it will remain closed for the rest of the day as a precautionary measure.

GMP emphasized that there is no indication of any ongoing threat to students or staff at the school. This reassurance came through a statement released shortly after 09:00 BST. Among those affected by the events was Peter Woods, a parent of a Year Nine pupil, who hurried to the school after receiving news of the situation. Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, he expressed his shock and fear: “You hear things on the news but it’s always in other schools. You never think it will be in the school where your kid goes. For it to happen on your doorstep, it’s terrifying.”

Another parent, Aureo Dombaxe, who was dropping his son off earlier in the day, recalled seeing a significant police presence upon arrival. “We didn’t initially know what had happened,” he said, adding, “When other parents informed me, it was heartbreaking.” He shared his concerns about safety, noting the widespread anxiety caused by knife incidents in schools: “You’re always worried because you hear about knives at other schools – it is a worry when your kids go to the school.”

Police remain stationed at the high school, with three vehicles parked outside on Plant Hill Road. While the crowds that had gathered have since dispersed, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. The Co-op Academy and its overseeing body, the Co-op Academy Trust, have been approached by the BBC for further comments regarding the incident
