The family of a British couple being held in Iran has reported that they have lost contact with them for over a week, causing serious concern for their safety. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, originally from East Sussex, were detained by Iranian officials in January 2025 while undertaking a global motorcycle journey. Authorities accused them of espionage, allegations the couple strongly deny.
According to their family, the Foremans’ phone access was abruptly cut off in early May, reportedly in response to a media interview the couple provided that month. Joe Bennett, Lindsay’s son from Folkestone, Kent, expressed deep worry, saying, “We simply do not know if my mum and Craig are safe.” He also mentioned that Craig had warned their family that without phone contact, they might resort to refusing food. Bennett has not been able to speak to his mother for over a week, and he described the silence as increasingly distressing. “We don’t know what is happening to them and we are terrified for them,” he said.
The couple’s family feels they have been left isolated, with no means to communicate or advocate for their situation. They have received information suggesting Lindsay and Craig could be subjected to solitary confinement, and barred from seeing one another. Before their communication was cut off, Craig reportedly warned that they might initiate a hunger strike if their phone calls were stopped, although it remains uncertain whether this has begun. Previously, the family had received written assurances that the couple would be allowed contact with each other and their family, but these promises “have now been broken,” the family confirmed.
