Man, 19, charged after bomb hoax at Peter Kay show

A bomb hoax prompted the evacuation of a Peter Kay performance in Birmingham, leading to a 19-year-old being charged in connection with the incident. Omar Majed, from Washwood Heath, Birmingham, faces charges of false communications and is scheduled to appear before magistrates in the city on Monday, according to West Midlands Police.

The disruption occurred at the Utilita Arena on Friday night when a suspicious bag was reported in the vicinity. This led to an immediate evacuation of the venue and the comedian being hurried off the stage. Authorities conducted thorough searches but confirmed that no suspicious items were discovered, emphasizing that public safety remains their top priority.

Peter Kay had been performing for approximately 45 minutes before the interruption ended the show prematurely. Representatives from the NEC Group assured ticket holders that they would be contacted by the original point of purchase regarding information on the next steps. The Utilita Arena Birmingham later posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to attendees for their cooperation during the evacuation and confirmed that the scheduled show on Saturday would continue as planned, highlighting the venue’s security protocols.

This event was part of Kay’s “Better Late Than Never” national tour, which benefits 12 prominent cancer charities through all of its proceeds. Upcoming performances are set in cities including Belfast, Liverpool, Sheffield, and Leeds
