Former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond’s estate is now seeking sequestration in Scotland due to costs associated with court action. This legal move comes after Salmond won a judicial review against the Scottish government over the handling of two harassment complaints against him. These complaints were deemed to be “tainted with apparent bias,” leading to Salmond being awarded £512,000 in costs. His former lawyers, Levy and McRae, are now representing his wife, Moira, in the winding up of his estate.
According to senior partner David McKie, exposing the Scottish government’s unlawful conduct has been a source of satisfaction for Salmond and his wife. McKie emphasized that given the circumstances Salmond faced, defending himself with all available resources was the only viable option.
Following his victory against the Scottish government, Salmond was later acquitted of several sexual misconduct charges at the High Court in Edinburgh. McKie expressed regret over the need to appoint a trustee in sequestration on behalf of Salmond’s widow but stated that it was a necessary step in the process. Salmond passed away in October 2024 at the age of 69 after suffering a heart attack while attending an event in North Macedonia
