The recent conflict between Israel and Iran has led to changes in the UK government’s travel advice for British nationals in the region. A final evacuation flight is scheduled to depart from Tel Aviv on Sunday, as Israel has reopened its skies for commercial air travel following a ceasefire agreement.
Initially, the Foreign Office had advised against all travel to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories when missile exchanges between the two countries began. However, on Friday, the government updated its guidance to advise against all but essential travel to most parts of Israel, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights.
While the government still advises against travel to certain areas like parts of northern Israel, the West Bank, Golan Heights, and all of Gaza, a sixth evacuation flight for British nationals is set to take place this weekend. The government emphasized that the safety and security of British nationals is a top priority and mentioned that flights will end if there is not enough demand.
The ceasefire brokered by the US and Qatar between Israel and Iran took effect on Tuesday, but the foreign office acknowledged that the situation remains fragile with the potential to deteriorate further. The conflict began on 13 June with Israel bombing nuclear sites and military targets in Iran, resulting in back-and-forth attacks that led to casualties on both sides. British nationals who were stranded due to the airspace closure were advised to register with the UK government for assistance
