Man climbs Palace of Westminster tower with Palestinian flag

Emergency services responded to a situation at the Palace of Westminster in London where a man had climbed the Elizabeth Tower while carrying a Palestinian flag. The incident, which took place early on a Saturday morning, attracted significant attention as the barefoot man stood on a ledge several meters up the tower.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene at 07:24 GMT, and they immediately began working to safely resolve the situation. At least nine emergency service vehicles were stationed on Bridge Street, and crowds gathered beyond the police cordon to watch the events unfold.

In a display of coordinated efforts, emergency personnel used a fire brigade aerial ladder platform to approach the man on the ledge. One individual from the team utilized a megaphone to communicate with the man, trying to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion. The closure of Westminster Bridge and one exit of Westminster Tube station were necessary to facilitate the emergency response.

Tours of the Parliamentary Estate were canceled as a precautionary measure while emergency services dealt with the incident. Both the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service were on the scene, ready to provide support as needed. Despite the disruption caused by the incident, Tube services remained operational for passengers using alternative exits from Westminster Tube station
