Dover: Woman charged with attempted murder after knife attack


An individual is in custody after an apparent knife attack in the town of Dover. The incident took place on late Friday evening when a woman in her 50s was assaulted with a large kitchen knife on Biggin Street. Police arrived soon after to the scene and apprehended the suspect who had been disarmed and restrained by security staff at a nearby pub.

The woman who was attacked received treatment for her back injuries and was later released from the hospital. Authorities charged a 47-year-old individual from Dover with attempted murder and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place. They were remanded in custody and appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

No connection between the suspect and victim has been found. Authorities considered the incident to be of a severe nature, and Det Ch Insp Bev Morrison had praise for the intervention on the part of security personnel. “I would like to commend the courageous actions of those who bravely intervened, and who without hesitation and no thoughts for their safety put themselves at risk,” he noted.
