Thames Valley Police’s Chief Constable Jason Hogg has been suspended following allegations of gross misconduct. The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) announced that it is investigating Mr Hogg for potential breaches of the professional code of conduct, specifically concerns that he failed to adequately investigate allegations around sensitive police information from 2016 to 2020.
The IOPC stated that the investigation does not guarantee that any disciplinary proceedings will take place. The organization will decide if any officers should face such proceedings after the investigation concludes. No criminal offences have been identified. A second senior Thames Valley Police officer is also under investigation for potential misconduct, according to Steve Noonan, the IOPC’s director of operations.
In response to the investigation, Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber stated the investigation relates to the failure of duties and responsibilities, and a lack of honesty and integrity. Barber emphasized that the decision to suspend Hogg is a neutral act and has no bearing on any indication of guilt.
Mr Hogg was appointed as TVP’s Chief in April 2023 and has been with the force since 2016. TVP oversees 2.34 million people in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire. Barber stated that an interim appointment would be made by the end of January to lead the force. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs will take charge from Hogg until the interim appointment.
An investigation into a former senior Thames Valley Police officer who allegedly retained significant amounts of sensitive police information after they left the force has concluded, with a file presented to the Crown Prosecution Service, according to the IOPC. The BBC has contacted TVP for comment
