Sacked basketball player in Scotland is murder suspect in US

Caledonia Gladiators, a Scottish basketball team, has terminated the contracts of two players, Malik Dunbar and Jared Wilson-Frame. Dunbar has been linked to a murder in Augusta, Georgia, which took place on October 4th, 2021, while Wilson-Frame has been released due to a disciplinary matter unrelated to the murder investigation. The team has stated that it was not aware of Dunbar’s alleged involvement in the murder case when he was signed in December.

Arthur Braxton, a 32-year-old man, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds outside a Mexican restaurant in Augusta. Reports suggest that Dunbar was the main suspect in the case. Further, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office had arrested Dunbar in August, charging him with possession of a firearm and marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Sports agency Interperformances, which represented Dunbar, stated that they were unaware of Dunbar’s links to the murder case. The club claims that the contracts were terminated due to an unrelated disciplinary matter and has launched an internal review of the signing process.

Caledonia Gladiators plays in the Super League Basketball, the highest tier of basketball in the UK. Dunbar enjoyed a successful college career with the Auburn Tigers and played overseas in Germany and Egypt before joining the team.

The team has stated that allegations of Dunbar’s involvement in the murder case were not disclosed during the due diligence process, and they work with reputable sports agencies to comply with the necessary regulations. The incident has raised concerns globally about the ethical and legal issues surrounding the signing process of sports players
