A newly discovered wedding video has moved a grandmother to tears nearly 60 years after her wedding. Beryl Davies and her husband, Griff, married in a Wales village outside Cardigan in October 1966. Film student Martyn Forrester, during a holiday in Cardigan, found the film reel of their wedding in an antiques shop for £5. After watching the footage, Mr Forrester contacted Mrs Davies through social media who was “in total shock.”
Mrs Davies commented that she was “blown away by it all,” and could not believe that it had suddenly appeared after all these years and could have gone indefinitely undetected. Mrs Davies said that she had never seen any of the footage before. Those who filmed the footage remain a mystery.
Commenting on the long-lost footage, Mrs Davies noted that she found it “very emotional” because it featured people no longer with the family. Mrs Davies only had one colored photograph of her special day featuring the bridesmaids in their magenta-colored dresses. Mr Forrester, studying in Manchester, said he was delighted to share the footage with the family after digitizing the film.
As to why Mr Forrester posted about the find: “This was purely out of curiosity. I had no intention of finding whatever was on that reel and sending it to someone,” he said. However, Mr. Forrester felt it was personal and had to find the family. After posting about it on a Cardigan Facebook page, he was quickly put in touch with Mrs. Davies’s brother who recognized the couple, in less than 24 hours
