Television personality and actor, Paul Danan, has passed away at the age of 46, according to his management company. Danan was best known for his role in Hollyoaks and for appearing in reality TV shows such as Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother. His behaviour on Celebrity Love Island in 2005 led to him becoming a topic of discussion in the tabloid press. Danan was “a beacon of light to so many,” said his management company. Others who have paid tribute include Michael Greco and Calum Best.
Danan was born and brought up in Essex and made his acting debut in EastEnders as a child. He went on to train at the Italia Conti drama school in London and secured a part in Hollyoaks where he played the character of Sol Patrick for four years. Danan left the show in 2001 and moved to Los Angeles. He struggled to build an acting career there and turned to reality TV when he returned to the UK.
Danan was charged with possessing several bags of cocaine and some cannabis but had not yet been convicted. His cause of death has not been revealed at this time. The actor had been sued last October for driving while under the influence of drugs.
In late 2020, Danan started drama classes in Bristol, his adopted hometown, for mental health or addiction sufferers and those who have been in prison or have suffered trauma. He was proud of the work he did teaching drama. However, Danan had his own battles with addiction and had revealed in the press that he had once spent over £1m on rehab services
