The Princess of Wales, Catherine, has recently visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in London in order to thank the staff and support other cancer patients. She met with medical personnel and with people who are currently undergoing treatment, empathetically sharing with them her own experiences with the disease and the often tough side effects of the various treatments used. This was Catherine’s biggest solo royal event since she finished undergoing cancer treatment herself.
Catherine shared her appreciation for the staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital during her visit, thanking them for their excellent care and compassion. She spoke from her own experience, acknowledging to other patients that the long-term side effects of treatment can be challenging and that it can be difficult to return to normal life after undergoing surgery or chemotherapy. She sought to reassure those she spoke to that their hardships were not being ignored and that they were in good hands.
The Princess concluded her visit by telling one patient that although it was tough to cope with chemotherapy and its effects, keeping a positive mindset makes a difference. She said that she wished to highlight the exceptional care and treatment provided by the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she underwent cancer treatment, and that she was proud to be the hospital’s new royal patron along with Prince William.
The Royal Marsden Hospital, which has been an expert in cancer care and treatment since 1851, treats around 59,000 patients every year. Princess Diana was previously a patron of the hospital, and now both her son and daughter-in-law carry on the role of supporting this admirable institution.
