A pair of Animal Rising activists have been sentenced for their role in milk-pouring stunts at two luxury goods department stores in central London. At Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, 28-year-old Sofia Fernandes Pontes and 42-year-old Stephen Bone were handed community orders. Both admitted to charges of theft and criminal damage arising from the incidents last October. They were also ordered to pay compensation and to carry out unpaid work.

Judge Hiddleston imposed a one-year community order on Fernandes Pontes and a two-year order on Bone. Compensation of £655 was ordered to be paid, with Bone also paying prosecution costs of £488. The activists were filmed being escorted from Fortnum & Mason by security guards.
Animal Rising provided a statement from Fernandes Pontes, in which she argued for the need to transition to a plant-based food system to mitigate the suffering caused by extreme weather and food shortages. She added that farmers should be given support to make the move toward plant-based production
