Paddy McGuinness: Chris Hoy cycle training pushed me to 'absolute limits'

Paddy McGuinness, a well-known TV presenter, is about to push himself to his physical limits as he gets ready to tackle an ultra-endurance cycling challenge in aid of BBC Children in Need. Ahead of the challenge, McGuinness has revealed that Sir Chris Hoy has been advising him and pushing him to his “absolute limits” during training. McGuinness plans to cycle almost 300 miles from Wrexham in Wales to Glasgow in Scotland over three days.

The challenge is close to McGuinness’s heart as it raises funds for Children in Need, a charity that has funded many of the people he has met during his career. Seeing first-hand the excellent work primary stakeholders were doing played a significant role in motivating him to take on this challenge.

Hoy, 48, was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer last month, which came “completely out of the blue.” Hoy has spoken publically about how tough the last year has been with daily treatment and chemotherapy but has been trying to stay positive by seeing it as a challenge to try and fight back. McGuinness has explained that the chance to work with Hoy and support BBC Children in Need has been life-changing, with the ultra-endurance challenge being one of the biggest challenges he has ever faced.

McGuinness will be setting out on his challenge later today with the aim of getting to the finish line on Friday evening. The 51-year-old will be cycling through three nations and eight countries on a modified Raleigh Chopper Bike. This year’s Children in Need appeal will coincide with the completion of McGuinness’s cycling challenge on BBC One
