Zayn Malik postpones US tour after 'heartbreaking' loss of Liam Payne


Following the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne, Zayn Malik has postponed the US leg of his upcoming tour. The singer was due to start the tour next week, beginning with a show in San Francisco on Wednesday. However, Malik said that due to the “heartbreaking loss” experienced this week, he has made the decision to postpone the US leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour. Payne passed away at just 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel balcony in Argentina.

Malik was set to perform shows in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington DC, with the tour culminating with a show in New York on 3 November. The singer has told fans that the dates will be rescheduled for January, and tickets will remain valid for the new dates. “Love you all and thank you for your understanding,” he added. On Thursday, Malik paid tribute to Payne, saying he would “cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever.”

Payne and Malik skyrocketed to fame as part of the boyband One Direction, created on the X Factor TV show in 2010. The group, which also consisted of bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, sang together before Malik left the group in 2015 to start a solo career.

Payne’s sister, Ruth Gibbins, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram, describing her brother as her “best friend.” She said the family would “take care” of his son, Bear. In Argentina, Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, visited the morgue in Buenos Aires to officially identify his son. Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, Payne’s former partner, also voiced her grief, saying he was not only a pop star and celebrity but also a father to their seven-year-old son
