Early on Saturday morning, an explosion and subsequent fire at a house in the town of Bedford killed one person and seriously injured another; emergency services were notified of the incident at 7:30 BST. As a result of the incident, residents were asked to evacuate the area and roads in the vicinity were closed off.
Bedfordshire Police confirmed that one person had lost their life in the explosion and fire. They have yet to establish the cause of the blast and are currently conducting investigations. The council in Bedford set up an emergency assistance centre for those who were unable to return to their homes due to the incident.
In view of the unfortunate events, the police are advising residents still in the area to keep their windows open as the investigations continue.
