A South Yorkshire hair salon, famous for being used as the exterior shot for the corner shop in the BBC sitcom, Open All Hours, staring Ronnie Barker and Sir David Jason, is being put up for sale. The property, located in Lister Avenue, Balby, Doncaster, was initially saved from demolition due to public protest until its auction in 2008, where it failed to meet the reserve price. However, the property is now being auctioned again with a guide price of £150,000 on October 15th.
Open All Hours, scripted by Roy Clarke, ran for 26 episodes between 1973 and 1985, and was about the money-saving activities of Barker’s grocer, Albert Arkwright, who also acted as a reluctant father-figure to his nephew and delivery boy, Granville, played by Jason. Barker passed away in 2005, but the show was revived as Still Open All Hours and aired from 2013 to 2019, with Granville now operating the shop.
The property is being sold by Pugh Auctions, and comprises a commercial unit previously utilized as a hair salon, as well as two self-contained flats above.
