Wokingham boy, 12, dies on Powys camping trip

A 12-year-old boy has died while on a family camping trip in mid Wales, according to an inquest. The boy, Kaicy Rakai Zelden Brown, was sharing a tent with his grandfather in Powys on 14 September, while his uncle was in a tent nearby. At around 11:00 BST, his uncle found Kaicy unresponsive and contacted emergency services, but he could not be saved. The inquest heard that an investigation was being carried out into the death of Kaicy’s grandfather David, from Wokingham, whose circumstances were not outlined in court.

A post-mortem examination at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital found the cause of Kaicy’s death needed more investigation. Coroner Graeme Hughes said the results of the toxicology analysis, which includes tests for carbon monoxide, would be provided to the family members as soon as they were available. He expressed his condolences to the family for the loss of Kaicy and David.

The inquest into Kaicy’s death was adjourned until a future date. There have been no further details released concerning the investigation into David’s death. This camping trip tragedy is a terrible blow for the family, and the investigation into the cause of Kaicy’s death is a reminder of the dangers involved in camping holidays
