Former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed’s doctor, Dr Ann Coxon, has denied carrying out sexual health tests on staff members. Many women told the BBC that Dr Coxon carried out these medical checks while working for Fayed. Kate, one of the women, said that she told Dr Coxon it was unnecessary to test her since she wasn’t sexually active, and her concerns were brushed off. Another former employee, Natacha, described the examinations as wholly unnecessary and intrusive. Dr Coxon repeatedly denied carrying out the tests, but her denial is contradicted by Natacha.
Some of these women that were interviewed for the BBC documentary/podcast Al-Fayed: Predator at Harrods said they were subjected to the tests when they started working for the London department store. Kate said a ‘company medical’ with Dr Coxon was organized for her, considered a perk of working in the chairman’s office. Many of these women are preparing to make a formal complaint to the General Medical Council about the medical procedures.
Fayed, who died last year aged 94, owned Harrods between 1985 and 2010. He has been accused of multiple rapes and sexual assaults by several women who worked for him, many of whom have said they felt unable to report what had happened until recently. The current owners of Harrods have expressed that they were “utterly appalled” by the allegations and that Fayed’s victims had been failed, for which the store sincerely apologizes. Dr. Coxon was one of at least two doctors who carried out these medical tests for Fayed, another being Wendy Snell who has since passed away
