Boys died in rubbish-strewn house fire, court hears


In a tragic incident, four young boys lost their lives after a fire broke out at their home while their mother was away, according to a court hearing. Deveca Rose, the boys’ mother, left her two sets of twins – Leyton and Logan Hoath aged three, Kyson and Bryson Hoath aged four – unattended at their home in Sutton, south London at approximately 6:30 pm on December 16, 2021, to visit a supermarket. A discarded cigarette or upturned tea light sparked a fire at their residence. The boys tried to escape and cried for help, but the locked doors prevented them from fleeing, ultimately leading to their death.

The prosecutor told the Old Bailey that the boys were found together under a bed as the fire caused significant damage to other parts of the house. The children died after inhaling fumes caused by the fire. While firefighters found the boys unconscious in the upstairs front room, neighbours alerted by the smoke tried to enter the house but were unsuccessful.
