Slayer guitarist Kerry King has confirmed that the band will not tour again, in a recent interview with Jonathan Clarke, host of Out of the Box on New York’s classic rock station, Q104.3. King was asked about the band’s forthcoming reunion gigs and how they came about. The reunion tour comes five years after Slayer’s last run of gigs, which were billed as their farewell tour at the time. The band will headline two festivals, Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky and Riot Fest in Chicago, this September.
The line-up will feature co-founders King and Tom Araya, guitarist Gary Holt (also of Exodus) and drummer Paul Bostaph. Slayer has been offered gigs since the beginning of 2020, but turned them down due to the pandemic. King suggested the three-show anniversary package would be fun. “It’s kind of a five-year anniversary of our last tour,” he explained.
However, King confirmed that the reunion shows would be commemorative and they won’t record new music or tour again. Previously speaking about the reunion shows with Classic Rock History last month, King shared how the gigs would look. “It’s not really much different at all. It’s the same heads, same cabs, same pedals, same guitars. You know, there will be a lot of fire when Slayer plays, and I think, yeah, those shows will just be fun.”
In other news, King recently criticised Iron Maiden’s more recent output. In an interview with Loudwire Nights, King said he hasn’t been impressed with the last couple Iron Maiden records. “I’m talking, like, the last four albums. It’s just not my gig.” Despite his views on Iron Maiden, King’s focus remains on Slayer, and fans are eagerly awaiting their anniversary reunion shows
