Chicago-based indie band Friko has unveiled a cover version of Radiohead’s ‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi’, which it performed at its recent debut album show at the Metro venue. The band’s rendition is more pensive and deliberate than the original, with added shoegazey reverb towards the end of the track. It can now be streamed on YouTube. The band has also inaugurated its UK and European tour via its website and Spotify. The tour starts in November of this year, with Friko traveling across various European cities, such as Amsterdam and Paris, before reaching London’s Pitchfork festival in the UK. After that, the group will make stops in Bristol, Manchester, and Glasgow before wrapping up the tour with a show in Dublin.

Friko had previously toured America alongside Royel Otis. When the group performed in Austin in March, NME awarded them four stars for their outstanding musicianship. Critic Jordan Bassett praised the group’s songs as “almost unreasonably anthemic” while admiring the “crashing texture of ‘Crashing Through’ and the haunting beauty of ‘Cardinal’”. Bassett’s review concluded with high praise for Friko’s talents and potential to excel.

Friko’s cover has given a new life to Radiohead’s ‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi’ and will no doubt add to the band’s growing legion of followers. The UK and European Tour will be their first-ever to the UK, and they will most likely receive a warm welcome from Brit audiences hungry for live music after the pandemic. Fans of Radiohead and indie pop/rock music alike can look forward to Friko’s upcoming tour and further material
