Peggy Gou, the South Korean DJ and producer, will be releasing her first album, ‘I Hear You’, on June 7th under XL Recordings. The album includes ten tracks, including her latest single ‘1+1=11’, which was recently released along with a new music video, directed by Olafur Eliasson. The video was premiered in Berlin and was part of a party hosted by Gou herself, featuring DJ sets by Spray, fka.m4a and Matrefakt.
Gou’s debut album includes her collaboration with Lenny Kravitz on the track ‘I Believe in Love Again’. Eliasson, an Icelandic-Danish artist and Gou’s longtime friend, has worked closely with her on several tracks from the album, as well as designing the album cover featuring an image of Gou surrounded by a “ring of ears”. The album explores and represents the theme of “togetherness”, which is reflected in the video ‘1+1=11’.
Villano Antillano, a Puerto Rican rap artist, performed as the album’s second vocal contributor. Gou expresses that “I Hear You” is “more than just my debut album. It embodies countless hours of dedication in my journey to create something timeless, and is a testament to the power of listening, to ourselves and to each other.”
Eliasson also shared his personal appreciation of the transformative nature of dance as an artform, stating that it had changed his teenage years and inspired his later artistic work.
