Nigel Farage, the honorary president of Reform UK, celebrated his 60th birthday in London on Wednesday. Guests included former Prime Minister Liz Truss, fellow Conservative MP Dame Andrea Jenkyns, Tory MP Mark Francois, Lee Anderson, who defected from the Tories to Reform last month, Richard Tice, the leader of Reform, LeaveEU co-founder Arron Banks and reality TV star Georgia Toffolo. The ex-UKIP leader was described by former US President Donald Trump in a video message as a “prophetic leader”.
Founded after the end of the Brexit Party, Reform has pledged to challenge the Tories in every constituency in England, Scotland and Wales at the next general election. It is currently polling around 12%. Farage has not confirmed his involvement in the upcoming election, which is expected later this year. Although he failed to get elected to the UK Parliament seven times, he could still play a role as a campaigner.
Dame Andrea described Farage as “a true patriot, conservative to the core” and “one of the most influential politicians of our generation”. Ms Truss was also spotted in the background of a photo shared on social media. Mr Farage recently appeared at the Conservative party’s annual conference in Manchester, where he danced with former Conservative minister Priti Patel at a party. His appearance prompted speculation he could rejoin the party, but he has insisted he is committed to backing Reform at the next election.
The birthday celebrations were held at Boisdale, a Scottish-themed restaurant and bar in Canary Wharf. The event was not only attended by British politicians, but also by a former US President, indicating the significance of Farage’s influence in politics. His contribution to the politics of the UK, most notably the Brexit cause, has certainly been a major influence in recent years, and his influence will continue to be felt for some time to come
