An 11-year-old boy named Thomas Wong has died after being hit by a bin lorry in Edinburgh. The incident occurred at around 8:20 am on Friday whilst he was riding his bike on Whitehouse Road. Police Scotland have said that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The family of Thomas Wong has expressed their devastation at his loss in a statement released by the police, describing him as ‘the perfect son’ and went on to say: “Thomas was a friend to all and was adored by all his family. We will all miss him terribly.” They requested privacy during this difficult time.
Headteacher Helen Donaldson has expressed her condolences to the family of Thomas Wong in a statement, stating that he was “kind and always eager to support others, and will be greatly missed by all of us.” The police have appealed to the public to provide information regarding the incident. They have also requested for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to reach out to them. The driver of the bin lorry was not harmed.
Sadly, Thomas Wong is the second child to be killed this year after being hit by a bin lorry in Scotland. In January, an 11-year-old girl called Elizabeth Bell died after being struck by a vehicle on the A6105, near East Gordon.
