The Merseyside night bus service has made its return for the festive season. The service, which was cancelled as a result of the pandemic, resumed operations on December 8th and will be run by Stagecoach. The bus will travel between Birknhead and Allerton every hour between midnight and 5 am GMT, passing through Mossley Hill, Toxteth, Liverpool city centre and Wavertree. The fare for the night bus will cost £2.

Natasha Evans, founder of the Queensway Collective, expressed her excitement over the service’s return. She said, “the return of the night bus is completely revolutionary for Merseyside.” Multiple independent organizations that supported the area’s night culture have recently shut down, so this news is a long-awaited piece of good news and a glimmer of hope. As a resident of the Wirral, I found Liverpool nightlife inaccessible due to the outrageous cost of taxi fares, which served as a significant barrier.”

Steve Rotheram, Liverpool’s Metro mayor, has worked closely with local campaigners, students, late-night workers, and the hospitality industry to reintroduce the late bus services. The night buses’ return is a significant achievement for local people, who have been campaigning for this moment for three years. According to Rotheram, the night bus service would make it safer, cheaper and easier for people to travel home without having to cut their party short.

The Queensway Collective, which was created in 2022 to provide a platform for underrepresented groups in electronic music, collaborates with forward-thinking establishments and venues in the region. Liverpool’s night bus service makes it easier for people to attend established nighttime events in the area and encourages the development of new nightlife experiences.
