The music world is in mourning following the confirmation of the death of Massive Attack bandmate Angelo Bruschini. The trip hop band issued a statement through their social media accounts, revealing their devastation at his passing. The statement went on to pay tribute to the “brilliant, eccentric talent” of the Bristol-born artist, describing it as impossible to quantify his contribution. The band’s thoughts were with his family, they said.
Angelo Bruschini was involved in several other music projects in addition to Massive Attack, including The Blue Aeroplanes, The Numbers, and Rimshots. He was also a producer, overseeing Strangelove’s self-titled album in 1997, and playing guitar on Jane Taylor’s single ‘Blowing This Candle Out’ in 2005. Angelo Bruschini updated fans in July this year regarding his cancer diagnosis, stating that he had received a diagnosis of lung cancer.
Tributes have been pouring in from fans via social media. The Blue Aeroplanes, with whom Angelo worked, also posted a statement on social media, announcing the passing of “our brother” and adding that their thoughts were with his family at such a difficult time. Angelo Bruschini’s wife shared that he had passed away from pleomorphic carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Massive Attack formed in the 1980s and Bruschini joined the band in 1990. The group has enjoyed success with two Number One albums in the UK, ‘Mezzanine’ and ‘100th Window.’ In total, Massive Attack have released six studio albums, as well as numerous singles and EPs. They are noted for their pioneering work in the genre of trip-hop and have been cited as an influence by many other artists
