A TUI flight from Corfu skidded off the runway as it attempted to land at Leeds Bradford Airport on Friday afternoon during wet and windy conditions caused by Storm Babet. The airport has since closed following the incident. All passengers are reported to have been safely taken off the plane and no injuries or fires have been reported. The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that their “command unit has now been stood down”.
One passenger aboard the affected plane shared photos from the aircraft on social media and commented on the “interesting landing”, adding “going to be here a while”. Another passenger at the airport claimed to have witnessed “a bumpy hard landing” and described the incident as a “TUI plane skid[ding] off [the] runway”.
A TUI UK&I spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that there were no injuries being reported, and that “ground team are on hand to support passengers as they disembark”. Leeds Bradford Airport has advised travellers to check with airlines before setting off. The airport remains closed, but relevant emergency authorities are reportedly working alongside the airline to resolve the situation safely and quickly.
