Music producer and DJ Floating Points has dropped his latest single, ‘Birth4000′, on Ninja Tune. The track, which has been popular on the DJ circuit, having been incorporated into the playlists of prominent figures such as Peggy Gou and Four Tet, marks Floating Points’ first solo release this year. Its distinctive noodling bassline riff hints at influences from Giorgio Moroder’s ‘I Feel Love’, though the song itself veers off into its own distinct style, spanning five minutes and offering up a range of sonic textures, from arpeggios to hissing machines and a thumping kick drum.
The track’s visualiser comes courtesy of Japanese artist Akiko Nakayama, who performs watercolour painting in real-time across the four-minute duration of the song. ‘Birth4000’ followed a busy year for Floating Points, which saw him perform live alongside Pharaoh Sanders, as well as perform at events such as Glastonbury and Stone Island presents London, where the artist played a lengthy 20-minute version of ‘Birth4000’. The DJ will wind down the year with appearances at RSO.BERLIN and Brazil, with gigs already confirmed in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
