Mixmag, the dance music and club culture magazine, will showcase a photography exhibition from its archive this week as part of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). The event will include a gathering on Wednesday, 18 October, to officially open the exhibition, which spans the years 1993 to 2023, and features 40 iconic images encapsulating dance music culture, at the Social Hub Amsterdam City. Attendees will enjoy music from Airrica and Doudou MD, together with complimentary food and drinks. The exhibition will run throughout the ADE week.
Mixmag was founded in 1983 and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023 as the world’s biggest dance music media brand. The exhibition delves into the magazine’s vast archive and documents the DJs, producers, genres and movements that have transformed nightlife since its inception. Fashion partner A|X Armani Exchange is associated with the exhibition, alongside Mixmag.
The event is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at celebrating Mixmag’s 40-year history. Earlier this year, the magazine announced collaborations with the DJ Awards, a charity initiative with Mental Health Foundation and a documentary detailing the history of the UK’s dance music culture. The lead-up to Mixmag’s 40th anniversary year began with a book released in 2016, showcasing 40 years of dance music history.
The ADE event will also feature speeches and presentations from influential figures in the music and technology industries. The conference is due to begin on Wednesday and continues until Sunday. It attracts over 375,000 visitors, hosting a range of events and parties across the city
