Poté shares glittering, introspective new EP ‘To Say Goodbye’

London-based musician Pote has dropped his latest EP, “To Say Goodbye,” via his own label, Versicolor. While Pote first started his career in club music, he eventually shifted to experimenting and finding his own unique style. In this six-track EP, he manages to blend his St Lucian heritage’s rhythmic sounds with emotionally charged songwriting.

The EP is inspired by transience, acknowledging that nothing lasts forever. According to Pote, “this is a project based around transience, the recognition that nothing lasts forever. So for that, I wanted to write a project that represented me, as if it were to be my last. A project which felt fearless in its honesty about love, loss, fear and joy. A project which didn’t try to hide behind layers, one of genuine vulnerability and openness.”

The EP opens with a high-energy club track called “Why Don’t You Call,” which is followed by an emotional journey. When he was touring in Europe with Bonobo, Pote constructed the electronica track and euphoric-laden “Our Love,” which features Wretch 32. The tracks that follow are driven by Pote’s own feelings, situations, and moments. The EP closes with “To Say Goodbye,” which Pote explains “was meant to be the last song I released. I’m very glad that my mind has changed over time, but the sadness in the reality of that moment still remains very poignantly in the song. It means so much to me, this song will forever remain dear to my heart for that reason.”

To coincide with the release of “To Say Goodbye,” Pote has announced a co-headline show with Fakear in London at Studio 9294 on November 24. To enjoy the six-track EP, check it out here. Niamh Ingram is the Weekend Editor for Mixmag. Follow her on Twitter
