A woman has tragically died at a fundraising event for a Welsh rugby club after choking on a marshmallow at the age of just 37. The Beddau RFC, where the incident occurred, paid tribute to the victim, who they described as a “wonderful wife, mother and daughter”. The incident took place during a bingo fundraiser for the club’s under-10s’ team in South Wales. South Wales Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
The club’s statement posted on Facebook said, “the club and the Beddau community are heartbroken. On Saturday night, we lost a very dear friend who will be sadly missed.” It added that “everybody associated with Beddau RFC and within the community are nothing less than devastated.”
Local MP Alex Davies-Jones said she was “really sad to read this awful news” and offered her condolences. The Rhondda Cynon Taf council is also investigating the incident as the health and safety regulator and the local licensing authority.
