Techno artist Marcel Fengler has revealed details of his next EP, titled ‘Unleashed’, set for release on October 13 on the Index Marcel Fengler label. The four-track EP features a remix from fellow countrymen SHDW & Obscure Shape and will be released digitally, with the vinyl version following at a later date. The title track sets the tone with its rapid pace and unrelenting drive and is a real peak-time cut. Fengler has said that the EP has been long in the making, with some of the tracks starting before the pandemic.
The German artist admits that the last few years can be heard on the EP, reflecting the multiple emotions he experienced during its production. He said, “During the time both of my parents were also taken sick unexpectedly, and the impact of everything left me unable to really focus on music. These tracks were the first release I worked on since, and I feel the last few years can be felt in the sound…”
The EP features three other tracks – ‘Caution’, ‘Cypher’, and a remix by SHDW & Obscure Shape of the latter. ‘Caution’ is a stylish balancing act of raw techno and groove, while ‘Cypher’ has a grittier, more industrial sound. The remix by SHDW & Obscure Shape flips the track into a deeper, more subtle, yet equally powerful affair.
Fengler has released several EPs and albums on labels such as IMF, Ostgut Ton and Mote-Evolver. He is well respected in the techno scene as both a DJ and producer.
