Scuba, the British techno producer, has previewed ‘Move Like Shadows,’ a track from his upcoming mixtape ‘Digital Underground.’ This mixtape will commemorate the 20th anniversary of his London-based label, Hotflush Recordings. The mixtape is a conglomeration of Scuba’s vinyl-only series ‘Hardcore Heaven’ in which he covers early acid house and hardcore sounds. The mixtape also includes adjustments and additional tracks that transcend breaks, techno, and early 2-step.
In collaboration with a classic early 90s sound palette of early-1990s hardcore, pre-94 hardcore, acid house, jungle techno, and more, the ‘Digital Underground’ project was constructed in the studio, making a lot of sketchy rave tracks, each made in a morning. Scuba explains that ‘Move Like Shadows’ incorporates a little early-2000s broken beat along with fun vocals and a high-powered 808, making it a fun track that does not try to be anything else.
The mixtape ‘Digital Underground’ will be released on November 10th on Hotflush Recordings, and ‘Move Like Shadows’ is its second preview track. The preview is available now on music platforms like Spotify, and the track builds upon the foundations of Scuba’s celebrated ‘Hardcore Heaven’ vinyl-only series while tailoring it toward a broader audience.
Niamh Ingram, the Weekend Editor of Mixmag, said that the forthcoming mixtape would contain a dozen tracks that would combine love for the style of electronic production of 30 years ago with contemporary production techniques.
