The family of a woman who was killed in Manchester has paid tribute to her, describing her as “beautiful inside and out”. Charlene Mills, 43, died on Saturday after police were called to a report over “concerns for welfare” in Gorton. A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder. Ms Mills’ family described her as “strong-willed, kind, and cheeky”, and said she had overcome many obstacles in her life. “She loved being a mum” and was devoted to her child and her dog, they said.
The police have referred the case to their professional standards branch for assessment, “due to previous contact” with Ms Mills, according to standard procedure. Detective Superintendent Helen Critchley said that officers were investigating the incident and that a scene remains in place at the site. She assured local residents that the incident was isolated and appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
The family said they were “extremely grateful for the messages of support” and requested privacy and “time to grieve”. They added that the world would not be as fun without Ms Mills, and that their “treasured memories” of her were the only source of comfort in this difficult time. The case highlights yet again the toll of violence and crime on individuals and their families, and the need for community support and resources to prevent such incidents from recurring.
The death of Ms Mills is a tragic loss to her loved ones, who are struggling to come to terms with her sudden passing. It is important that the police conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and that those responsible are held to account. Our thoughts are with Ms Mills’ family and friends at this time
