Gardaí, the Irish police force, have reported that a woman in her 40s was killed in a “violent incident” in County Offaly, and a teenage boy has been arrested. Authorities were called to a property near Tullamore on Friday afternoon where they discovered the victim’s body. The perpetrator is believed to be known to the victim, and the police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
There are reports that the incident was filmed and circulated online. In a statement addressed to the public, a garda spokeswoman stated that they are aware of the existence of “images from this incident circulating on social media and messaging apps,” and urged people not to share the content.
The teenage boy in custody is 16 years old, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ. The victim was severely injured in a house in the Rahan area, located about six miles outside Tullamore.
The crime scene has been contained for forensic purposes, and the Office of the State Pathologist has been informed of the incident. The authorities have set up an incident room at Tullamore Garda Station, and a family liaison officer has been appointed
