Michael Bibi, the co-founder of the Solid Grooves label and party, surprised revellers at the closing party for the popular club night in Ibiza. This was his first public appearance since announcing his cancer diagnosis in June and cancelling his upcoming gigs. Bibi, who was hospitalised for more than 100 days for (CNS) lymphoma, a rare form of cancer found in the brain and spine, left hospital on 26 September after completing his main treatment.
After landing at DC-10, Bibi, one of the most popular DJs in contemporary British dance music and a former Mixmag cover star, took to the decks for an emotional set. He had teased his appearance on social media, posting a photo of a plane wing in the sky on his Instagram story and tweeting “one life, live it” around the same time.
Over the past few years, Bibi has sold out the world’s most renowned clubs with his Solid Grooves and ELOVATE party series, and played on prominent festival stages. Known for his tireless work ethic, he often plays lengthy sets and has spoken about how experiences on the dancefloor can be a form of meditation and healing.
Footage from Bibi’s surprise appearance at Solid Grooves closing shows the emotional moment when he stepped up to the decks to make a much-awaited return to perform for his fans. For Bibi, the fight against cancer is not over, but for now, he is taking a well-deserved break and some extra time to enjoy life.
