Berlin’s cultural institution, Panorama Bar, is set to host queer party series LAUNDRETTE on 24 November. The parties were originally launched at Tel Aviv’s Phi Garden club, with emphasis placed on creating a safe environment for the queer community and marginalised groups. LAUNDRETTE has built a reputation for long B3B sets, covering Chicago house, tribal drums, rave essence and acid. Rotterdam’s Suze Ijó and London’s FAFF will be joining LAUNDRETTE’s founders, David Elimelech, Partok and Roi Perez in Berlin.
LAUNDRETTE’s debut outside of Tel Aviv comes at a time of ongoing tragedy in Israel and Palestine. The trio reportedly debated cancelling the Berlin event, but instead opted to proceed in order to uphold the group’s tradition of providing safe spaces for people to come together during challenging periods. According to a statement made to Mixmag, LAUNDRETTE “has always believed in coexistence and hope for peace, advocating for the safety of all human beings and condemning all acts of violence against civilians.”
The parties have previously donated a portion of their profits to Palestinian LGBTQIA+ organisations, and at Panorama Bar, all profits will be given to charities supported by the group. These include Standing Together, Culture of Solidarity and Beit El-Meem, all of which share LAUNDRETTE’s goal of pursuing unity and coexistence. In particular, the funds will go towards assisting survivors and evacuees of the 7/10 massacre, unsheltered Bedouin communities, displaced Palestinian communities due to settler violence, queer Arabs in both Israel and Palestine in need of professional psycho-social counselling and other underserved groups.
In the statement, LAUNDRETTE expressed the belief in the unifying power of music, and the hope that the event will provide comfort and solace. Meanwhile, tickets for the event are available here
