Wicken: Daughter's shock as thieves return stolen ashes of mum

Thieves who took a carved wooden urn containing the ashes of Hannah Aquarone have returned it to her daughter, Sophie Edmondson. The urn had been taken from a farm building in Wicken, Northamptonshire, on October 29th. Police believe two men took the urn along with jewellery and other sentimental items. The family discovered the container under some scaffolding while inspecting the farm last week.

Ms Edmondson was thrilled that the urn had been returned, describing herself as “beaming”. She had somewhat given up hope of the urn being returned, particularly as other sentimental items remained missing. However, she said the media coverage of the urn being taken had perhaps alerted the thieves to the seriousness of their actions and the hurt that they had caused.

Ms Edmonson thanked those who shared the story on social media and commented that her face hurt from smiling so much. She added that the family planned to scatter her mother’s ashes “among the bluebells” in her home county of Norfolk next spring.
