Four men charged over Blenheim Palace gold toilet theft

Four individuals have been charged in connection to the theft of an 18-carat gold toilet from Blenheim Palace in 2019. The stolen toilet was valued at $6m and was part of an exhibition by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. The suspects are due to appear before Oxford magistrates in November.

Michael Jones and James Sheen face burglary charges, while Fred Doe and Bora Guccuk are accused of conspiring to transfer criminal property. Sheen is also charged with transferring criminal property and conspiracy to do the same.

The toilet, titled “America,” had only been on display for two days when it was stolen, causing damage to the stately home in Woodstock as it was still plumbed in at the time. The heist caused flooding and damage to the 18th-century stately home, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace and former home of Sir Winston Churchill.

Blenheim Palace is located in Oxfordshire and the incident took place shortly before 05:00 BST on September 14, 2019. The toilet could be used for its intended purpose with a three-minute time limit to avoid queues.
