Missy Elliott becomes first female rapper to be entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Missy Elliott has made history by becoming the first female rap artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The honour was awarded during a ceremony where other inductees included the likes of Sheryl Crow, Rage Against the Machine, and George Michael. In her acceptance speech, Elliott thanked God and spoke about how much music can impact people’s lives, saying “That’s the one thing I think we can all say that comes together is music.”

Fellow female rapper, Queen Latifah, gave a speech in which she said “You feel free? You want to try some wild shit? Thank Missy,” before Elliott was awarded the honour. A short video was also created to honour Missy Elliott’s career, featuring other prominent female rap artists such as Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.

This is not the first time Elliott has been recognised for her contributions to music. In 2019, she became the first female hip hop artist to make the Songwriters Hall of Fame
